ASP Handcuffs History
ASP was founded in 1976 by Kevin Parsons. With a PhD in Police Management from Michigan State University, Parsons spent half a decade teaching firearms and defence tactics at a regional police academy. As a nationally respected consultant, he had designed Use of Force training systems for major law enforcement clients across the country. He is the nation’s premier expert witness and has testified over 500 times defending police agencies in 43 states. He is a frequent lecturer on use of force policy, training and administrative procedure, and was a frequent lecturer for a diverse group of professional organisations ranging from the International Association of Chiefs of Police to the American Bar Association. In each venue, he taught the necessity of systems that were tactically sound, operationally feasible and legally defensible. It was this real world, street-oriented background that Kevin Parsons brought to the design of ASP products.
The new ASP handcuffs provide a major police handcuff advance in both the design and construction of handcuff restraints. ASP frame geometry is the result of extensive computer modelling and analysis at ASP. There is a keyway and double-lock channel on both sides of each ASP handcuff, so removing the handcuffs is easier and safer. ASP handcuffs have several features that result in less cuff related injuries.
ASP Handcuffs Available At Patrol Store
Patrol Store offers a wide range of ASP Handcuffs from hinged steel/aluminium to chain linked steel to plastic restraints in a wide range of colours depending upon their ultimate use.
One of our more quirky products is the ASP Handcuff – Chain Linked – Pink. Yes they are pink but don’t laugh. We live in a society that has sub cultures where having an ASBO or an electronic tag is seen as a badge of honour. Getting arrested and hand-cuffed can be seen as being cool and can prove you’re tough. There is nothing cool about having a pink set of cuffs put on you. These cuffs may raise some smiles but they are a clear and visible deterrent to arrest.
Strength potential has been maximized through the use of an interlocking, unitized frame. The ASP handcuff structure is forged from high-strength stainless. The flat bow section provides single movement application preventing slippage on the wrist. During a confrontation no handcuff goes on easier due to the swivelling ASP chain and no matter which way you put the ASP handcuffs on the double sided locks allow for easy removal. The red indicator alerts you if the handcuffs are not double locked. These ASP handcuffs are truly a revolution!
